What is Ember?
Ember sheds light on your body’s inner chemistry, without shedding a drop of blood.
Using an advanced, 8 LED sensor, a device paired with your smartphone, Ember measures your hemoglobin and pulse rate in less than 90 seconds.
1. Get Ready
Pair the Ember device with your smartphone.
Place the sensor carefully on your finger and hold still for approximately 90 seconds.
View and share your results with your coach, teammate or friends directly from your smartphone.
Profiles of Athletes Using Ember
Professional Triathlete and
“I think that all athletes would benefit from an easy device that allows them to monitor their hemoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen, so knowing what those numbers look like is an advantage. There’s also a big advantage to anybody going to altitude for training camps or periods of time. I found that once I got into the routine of testing morning and night as well as pre and post workouts, it was very easy. I was able to see my hemoglobin on a regular basis and see the effects of altitude on my body.”
Professional Triathlete and
5x U.S. Cycling Champion
"(Regarding my elevation training), I know A LOT more than I knew before. I think it will take a few trials to say for sure what is perfect for me as an athlete, but there’s no doubt I know more, and I the longer I use the device, the more I learn. (Ember is ideal for) endurance athletes attempting to maximize their training and allow their bodies to reach their potential. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of altitude training as data compiles over time.”
3rd Place in Junior Cycling
“I absolutely think Ember gives me an advantage in competition because I know when I need to be going to altitude. I know when I can come down. Ember really allows me to get a big advantage because I can make informed decisions. I'm not just shooting in the dark.”
3 Time National Champion and
2 Time National Record Holder
“By accumulating data points and correlating it with my performance, I can see what hemoglobin levels I perform best at. I can then try to fine-tune my activities leading up to a race so that I can get my body to those optimal levels.”

What can I do?
Non-invasive hemoglobin and pulse rate in less than 90 seconds!
Monitor regularly to see if your trends are staying flat, going up, or going down. There’s no need to wait months between your blood draws to understand your hemoglobin numbers. Select the specific activities you wish to review such as 1st of day. Zoom and pan to a specific range to spot a trend in your hemoglobin values. You can even track how your activities impact your hemoglobin over time.
Find out when your hemoglobin levels change at various elevations, how long your body needs to acclimatize to higher elevations to reach targeted hemoglobin levels, and how long the effects of elevation exposure last. This puts you at an advantage of helping to formulate the optimal race strategy of when to compete upon your return to sea level. Each measurement you take with Ember records your GPS location and the corresponding elevation level.
With Ember, you can monitor your hemoglobin year-round to identify your peak performance season. This chart shows that hemoglobin values are lowest during the summer and highest during the winter. You may find that the best season for you to compete is during the winter and that you need to try elevation training during the summer to get the same level of oxygen carrying capacity that you have during winter.
By using Ember three times a day- First of day, Pre Workout and Post Workout, you will be able to build a trend and see the impact your workouts and activities have on your pulse rate or hemoglobin.
Each individual measurement results or graphs can be shared directly from the App via social media, sms, or email . You also have the power to export your entire measurement record as a .CSV file.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. I already get regular blood work. Why should I use Ember?
Ember is a tool for tracking hemoglobin trends and changes over time. Since hemoglobin values can change due to a change in elevation, your exercise intensity or hydration status, tracking and trending your hemoglobin values over time – together with your pulse rate – will give you richer and more dynamic information than one static measurement which can only give you a ‘snapshot’ of your hemoglobin. If you wish to monitor hemoglobin in connection with a medical condition, Ember is not for you. Contact your health care professional.
2. How can I use the information Ember provides me?
3. What is the difference between Hemoglobin (Hgb) measured by Ember and O2 Saturation (SpO2)?
Since hemoglobin is the primary carrier of oxygen in the body, Hemoglobin (Hgb) values gives you an idea of the quantity of oxygen you are able to carry. Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is different. It gives you an idea how well saturated your hemoglobin molecules are with oxygen. For a full understanding, please follow this link http://hgb.cercacor.com
4. How do I connect my Ember device to my smartphone?
5. Does Ember work on Android Phones?
Currently, Ember only works with iOS devices. We are planning to include Android platforms in the future but the launch date has not been announced. If you are interested in Ember that works with Android, please let us know here at email@example.com.
